Moon’s beginning

When looking up in the sky, do you ever wonder if the moon was always there? The Bible tells us of a light created to govern the night. The interesting thing about the light of the moon is that it mirrors the light of the sun. We were not there the day that the moon was created. We must choose what we believe about the moon’s creation or if it even matters. Was the moon torn away from Earth? Did the moon exist somewhere else and somehow react to the Earth’s gravitational force? Was there a cosmic bing bang boom, and wah-lah, there it was!!? Or is its mystery of existence the beautiful part? Imagine, if you will, that the moon had a mind.

A long time ago, Moon was curious; she wondered why she was responsible for shining light in the darkness. The moon was positioned next to Earth. Though she was more than willing to accept her assigned role, she had a problem. Moon was created without the ability to illuminate from within. She felt like an empty ball unsuitable for life but expected to do something she could not.

Often, she would catch herself feeling cold, lonely, and worthless, looking up at the sun with envy. She admired his radiant glow and wanted to be more like him.

One day, Moon decided to be proactive and take matters into account. She thought she could capture some of his light by moving closer to the sun. But as Moon moved closer, the world below began to change.

The tides became wild and unpredictable, causing chaos for the sea creatures. The night sky lost its gentle glow, leaving the Earth in darkness. The crop farmers lost their means of livelihood. All of this and more began to grow as cause for concern. The Moon realized that trying to reposition and take more of her portion of the sun’s light had disrupted the delicate balance of the universe.

The Moon developed feelings of deep remorse. She felt embarrassment and shame for distrusting her original placement and questioning why she could not generate light alone. She discovered her purpose and uniquely important place in the life cycle. Moon learned not to focus on illuminating light of her own but to reflect the sun’s light and hold its needed position in the darkness of night. She understood that although her motivation was pure, she not only intended to reflect the sun and his light, but her place directly affected the outcome of so many other plans in place. The Moon returned to her original position in the sky after learning to trust in the bigger picture and appreciate her role in the grand cosmic dance.

From that day forward, the Moon embraced her role as a faithful reflector of the sun’s light. It became evident that she was created equipped for her calling. She shone brightly in the night sky, illuminating the world below and reminding everyone of the importance of trust, acceptance, and playing their part in the greater scheme of things. Often, she would notice others who would act without understanding. Seeing their misguided ambition working and attempting to make their position and purpose more extraordinary than their initial intentions, she knew that maintaining focus would be the best thing for her to do. Living by example now had a new meaning to her. It was not that she was created and then left alone to figure out how to do her part. She was created with the exact position and tools needed to direct all of the Earth to the one true light, never leading anyone astray.

And so, the Moon and the sun continued to dance together, creating a harmonious balance that brought light and wonder to the world.

We are all given a choice. To follow and focus on the Son (Sun) and reflect His light, or to find our way to the spotlight. Sometimes, we might even have good intentions, but if we are illuminating our DIY lighting, the purpose is to prove ourselves or outshine someone else’s light.
